Sisowath, King of Cambodia shaking the trunk of Fallieres
Satirical postcard showing Sisowath (1840-1927), King of Cambodia shaking the trunk of French President Armand Fallieres (1841-1931) who is in the form of a benevolent Sacred Elephant. Sisowath is saying: "I carry in my heart a sacred remembrance". Sisowath had run out of money by the end of his visit to France (in July 1906) and had to leave the country in tears and embarrassed (as he was having so much fun!)
