Statue of Saint Carlo in Arona, Italy
A colossal statue of Saint Carlo in Arona, Lake Maggiore, Italy. The designer was Giovan Battista Crespi, known as Cerano, the statue being made of wrought copper sheets held together by nails and iron tie-beams (assembled by sculptors Siro Zanelia from Pavia and Bernardo Falconi from Lugano). The monument was finished in 1624 and was the largest statue in the world at the time
