Swiss Woman dancing with a brown bear
Swiss Woman in traditional costume dancing enthusiastically with a brown bear, the symbol of both the city and surrounding canton of Bern, Switzerland, and is featured in their coat of arms. The founding legend has it that Duke Berthold V of Zahringen vowed to choose as namesake for Bern the first animal his hunt met in the wood that was to be chopped down for the new city, which turned out to be a black bear.
