Talana Hill - Talana, Natal, South Africa. The site of the Battle of Talana Hill (Battle of Glencoe), the first major clash of the Second Boer War in 1899. A frontal attack by British infantry supported by artillery drove the Boer forces from the hilltop, but the British suffered heavy casualties, including the loss of their commanding general Sir William Penn Symons
