Torcello - Venice - Disused canal. Torcello is the island at the northern end of the Venetian Lagoon. It is the oldest continuously populated region of Venice. It also once held the largest population of the Republic of Venice. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (a basilica church) can be seen in the background
