Valens Aqueduct - Constantinople

Setting of the sun on the ruins of the Byzantine Aqueduct, built by Emperor Valens in about 375 AD. Water tapped from streams outside the city. In use until the late 19th century. Original length 1000 metres of which 625m remain standing. Postcard by Publishing House of Rochat. Inspired to issue a series of cards of quite well-known views of Constantinople which they then washed out in various colours. This was perhaps, for Constantinople, an innovation and the cards proved to be very popular with the public
