William Clive Bridgeman, 1st Viscount Bridgeman
William Clive Bridgeman, 1st Viscount Bridgeman (1864-1935) - British Conservative politician and peer. The Grandfather of Robin John Orlando Bridgeman, 3rd Viscount Bridgeman (1930-), husband of Harriet Bridgeman (1942-), founder of the Bridgeman Art Library. This postcard records his election as a member of parliament (MP) for Oswestry as the Unionist candidate, with a majority of 503 votes. Following the Conservative revolt against the leadership of the party in 1922, Bridgeman became Home Secretary in the new Conservative governments of Andrew Bonar Law and Stanley Baldwin
