William Tell - a folk hero of Switzerland - drawing of a statue at Altdorf. According to the legend, Tell was an expert marksman with the crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical reeve of the Austrian dukes of the House of Habsburg positioned in Altdorf, in the canton of Uri. In the best-known version of the apple-shot legend - Gessler commanded Tell to shoot an apple off his son's head with a single bolt from his crossbow. The caption translates as: You will tell of the shooter Tell - As long as the mountains stand on their bases"
