Cunard Line, RMS Carpathia, salvaged sink basin fragment

Cunard Line, RMS Carpathia, salvaged sink basin fragment. The Carpathia was a Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson in Wallsend, Liverpool, Tyne and Wear in England in 1903. She is best known as the ship which rescued all of Titanic's survivors. A salvaged partial section of a white vitreous porcelain tip sink basin, possibly from a Second Class cabin. The reason why this piece is in its present condition is due to the extreme stresses presented when the Carpathia was sunk by a German torpedo during World War I off the coast of Ireland. It is entirely conceivable that this piece was on board the Carpathia when she rescued Titanic's surviving passengers and crew. It bears an impressed crown mark and 37'. Approximate height 5uins, width 12uins, diameter 9ins. It was recovered on 1 September 2007, dive twenty, by the Achilles Rover, at lat. 49c 22.082 N, long. 10c 41.677 W by an ROV basket.
