Fountain, monument and pillar, Kiev, Ukraine
View of a fountain in Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) with a monument to the legendary founders of the city of Kiev, the three brothers Kyi (also Kiy, Kij or Kyj), Schek and Khoryv (Khoriv) and their sister Lybid (Lybed). Archaeological excavations have shown that there was an ancient settlement dating back to the 6th century. The names of the founders are linked to geographical features, eg hills, mountains and rivers. In the middle distance is the white and gold Independence Pillar
