Destruction Squad, flying car in quarry
Destruction Squad, flying car in a quarry. Joe Weston Webb fitted out an old Ford Popular with wings and a tail plane, then persuaded a stunt driver to shoot it over a water-filled quarry in the hope of creating the world's first flying family saloon. Not surprisingly the vehicle plunged down and disappeared beneath the surface. Fortunately the stunt driver, Dave Brookland, had been provided with a bottle of compressed air and a breathing mask. He was trapped underwater for more than half an hour before a team of divers - on standby just in case - were able to haul him from the mangled wreck and bring him, unharmed, to the surface. (2 of 2)
