A helicopter belonging to the No. 22 Squadron, Royal Air Force Search and Rescue, based at Thorney Island near Chichester, West Sussex, involved in the rescue of a group of people stranded by the rising sea at the foot of a steep cliff. Set up in 1955, the squadron was responsible for sea and land rescues over a range of 60 nautical miles. The crew of each helicopter comprised a pilot, a navigator and a crewman
