Scene in Skopje, Macedonia (then in Yugoslavia), after the earthquake, showing some modern buildings, including a theatre, which appear to have escaped damage. The earthquake occurred in the early morning of 26 July 1963, measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale. Over 1070 people were killed, between 3000 and 4000 injured, and more than 200, 000 made homeless. Around 80% of the city was destroyed
