A burlesque satire on the duel between Charles James Fox (Whig politician) and William Adam (Treasurer of the Ordnance). Duelling was considered an acceptable way to settle gentlemanly disputes in the mid-18th century. In 1779, Fox attacked a speech by Adam in support of Prime Minister North's American Policy. Adam was humiliated and he challenged Fox to a duel, in which Fox was shot in the groin
