Ascension Day, Tower of London
The Tower Chaplain, Tower officials and other military men assemble on Tower Green for the ceremony of Beating the Bounds, Ascension Day 1924. The ceremony dates back to 1381 when official inspections were made of the boundary stones marking the Tower's jurisdiction. Every third year, on Ascension Day, the Tower's authority is re-asserted as Yeoman Warders and local school children, process around the edges of the Tower, beating the boundary stones with willow wands
