King George III leaps from his chair, his breeches aflame. Queen Charlotte looks up in alarm. Newton's print references an incident at the House of Commons on 9 May 1792. Smoke filled the lobby, causing panic and fear of radical attack. The source turned out to be a pair of breeches that had been set on fire and hidden in a cupboard
