The Friendly Agent, 1788

King George III and Queen Caroline watch as former governor-general of India, Warren Hastings is hung from the gallows by his political agent, John Scott. In the background Hastings's former adversary Nanda Kumar shows him the way to hell. Hastings stood accused of corruption and unlawful conduct during his post in India. Nanda Kumar was an official in Bengal who had accused Warren Hastings of corruption. He was himself accused and convicted of forgery and executed
