The Jewel House, Tower of London
The Jewel House of 1841, designed and constructed by the Royal Engineers. The new Jewel House, built in the Gothic style, adjoined the south side of the Martin Tower and had rooms for the Jewel Keeper and his family above the Jewel Chamber. The building proved unsatisfactory - it was damp and insufficiently protected against theft and fire - and in 1869 the collection moved to the Wakefield Tower
