A new way to pay the National-Debt, 1786
King George III raids the Treasury to pay off his debts, accompanied by Queen Charlotte and the Prince of Wales. He is assisted by William Pitt (Prime Minister) and serenaded by musicians, whilst a wounded war veteran is ignored in the foreground. Gillray's print is a reaction to the latest government grant to pay off a royal debt of ?210, 000 (approximately ?1.5 million in today's money)
