Prince William offering his sword to the Dean at the altar
A view in Westminster Abbey showing the ceremony of installation of the Knights of the Order of Bath. Prince William, Duke of Cumberland (1721-65), son of King George II offers his sword to the Dean. Knights of the Garter in plumed hats and billowing robes stand in rows at either side under their banners, with a huge crowd of spectators beyond. In 1725 John Pine asked Joseph Highmore to make 20 drawings for engravings of the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath. The formal ceremony celebrating the installation of knights conferred by King George II was held at Westminster Abbey on 17 June 1725
