A Puzzle of Portraits, Or the Hour Glass exhausted, 1794
An hourglass, created by the profiles of Prime Minister William Pitt and King George III is running out of sand. The struts of the glass are made of human bones. The print references the declining fortunes of the Pitt ministry. Britain was losing the war against the French, and the threat of revolution and the Terror was at its height
