Princess Charlotte, the daughter of the Prince Regent lies in her marriage bed as a stocking is thrown between her four aunts. Queen Charlotte stands with her back against the door, blocking the entrance of the Prince Regent and Prince Leopold, the groom. Williams's print satirises the unhappy lives of the daughters of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Their private lives and potential marriage prospects were tightly controlled by their parents; three of four princesses married late in their lives
