A warm birth for the old administration, 1783

King George III lies asleep on the throne. The old administration - John, Earl of Sandwich, Lord John Germain, John Stewart, Earl of Bute and William Murray, Earl of Mansfield are dragged off by demons towards Pandaemonium. Charles James Fox and Lord North are welcomed in by the devil. The North Ministry, in power from 1770 to 1782, had overseen a turbulent period in British history - the Falklands crisis, the American War of Independence, and the Gordon Riots. In 1783 the Fox-North coalition was formed
