Germany (1848). The Frankfurt Parliament convened in Frankfurt's Paulskirche. Debate in the Assembly of Frankfurt 16 September 1848. When the constitution was completed, the Assembly offered the crown of united German to the King of Prussia, Frederick William IV, who refused it as crown from the gutter.'. Engraving
