The Italian fleet, allied to Prussia in his war against Austria, is defeated by the Austrian fleet supervised by admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff. The Italian navy, supervised by admiral Carlo Pellion, loses the ships Palestro (231 dead persons) and Re d'Itaglia (318 dead persons)
