RECESVINTUS, Flavius ( -672). Visigoth King (653-672)

RECESVINTUS, Flavius ( -672). Visigoth King (653-672). Visigothic Code, also known as Forum iudicum, Liber Iudiciorum or Lex Visigothorum. Set of laws promulgated by the Visigothic king of Hispania Recceswinth (ca. 654). The code is known to have been preserved by the Moors, as Christians were permitted the use of their own laws. When Ferdinand III of Castile took Cordoba, he ordered the code to be adopted and translated into Castilian, as the Fuero Juzgo. Vitr. 14-5 Fol. 10r. The manuscript comes from the Cathedral of Leon. It informs us that it was made by the amanuensis Froila for Presbyter Munnio. It is written in lower case Visigoth letters (ca 1058). Mozarabic art. Miniature Painting. SPAIN. MADRID (AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY). Madrid. National Library
