Signing of the Lateran treaties
In front of the Lateran Palace in Rome, great crowds witness the arrival of the Papal Secretary of State, Pietro Gasparri, and Benito Mussolini for the reading of the official communique after the ceremony of the Lateran treaties from February 11, 1929. The pact between the Vatican and the Italian government, by which the Pope becomes the Souvereign of the new state to be known as Vatican City, ends a conflict which had lasted since 1870. Italy.
