It was noted at the time that plaids were the highlight of the season and eminently displayed in this ensemble designed by Dolly Tree for Ruth Hussey in Blackmail (1939). Lipstick red faille was used in the fitted bodice of this evening gown. Very flattering was the off-the-shoulder treatment with bow accents on the cap sleeves and at front neckline.
