Admiralty, Fortress and Cathedral, St Petersburg

The Admiralty is located at the western end of the Nevski Prospekt, and was completed in 1823. On the other side of the river, the Cathedral is inside the Fortress, and is dominated by the bell tower with its tall spire. The Fortress was originally built under Peter the Great, and was completed in 1733. The cathedral was closed in 1919 and turned into a museum in 1924. It is still officially a museum today, but religious services resumed in 2000. Most of the Russian rulers are buried there
