View of the Arch of the General Staff (State Arch), St Petersburg, Russia. This is a tripartite triumphal arch separating the two wings of the General Staff Building. It commemorates the Russian victory over Napoleonic France in the Patriotic War of 1812. It links Palace Square through Bolshaya Morskaya Street to Nevsky Prospekt, and is surmounted by a sculpture of six horses drawing a chariot, with a winged Victory riding in the chariot and two Roman soldiers leading the two outermost horses
