Golden Mountain cascade, Peterhof, St Petersburg
View of the Golden Mountain (or Hill) cascade, with statuary, including a statue of Neptune at the top, in the grounds of the Palace at Peterhof, near St Petersburg, Russia. The name comes from the fact that the risers of the steps were lined with gilded copper sheets. The Grand Palace of Peterhof (Pedrodvorets) was commissioned by Peter the Great, who had been inspired by a visit to Versailles
