View of Gorky Street (Ulitsa Gorkogo) in Moscow, during the Soviet era. Before 1935 and after 1990 it was/is known as Tverskaya Street -- a very old street, believed to have existed as early as the 12th century. It was a fashionable place to live in the 17th and 18th centuries. During the imperial era the Tsars used to travel along this street when entering the city from the north. It is the most expensive shopping street in Moscow
