View of the Nikolaevsky (Nicolai) Bridge over the River Neva, St Petersburg, Russia. It was first known as Blagoveschensky Bridge, and later as Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge. It took eight years to build, from 1843 to 1850, and was the first large metal bridge in Russia. It connects Vasilievsky Island to the central part of the city.
