Nikolaevsky Bridge, St Petersburg, Russia
View across the Nikolaevsky (Nicolai) Bridge over the River Neva, St Petersburg, Russia. It was first known as Blagoveschensky Bridge, and later as Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge. It took eight years to build, from 1843 to 1850, and was the first large metal bridge in Russia. It connects Vasilievsky Island to the central part of the city. This postcard depicts a busy day, with traffic and pedestrians on both sides of the bridge, and a horse-drawn tram in the middle
