Carnival in Almiruete, Guadalaljara, Spain
Wearing masks symbolising evil spirits and nature Mascaritas and Bortagas lap the village with a distinctive dancing strut which chime the cow bells they wear. Carnival was banned for 40 years under the Franco dictatorship being considered too pagan. However, the village being so small and near the top of the Guadalajara mountain range in central Spain carried on its tradition.folklore.traditions unobserved by the authorities
