Carnival in Almiruete, Guadalaljara, Spain

Botargas (men) come down from the Spanish Guadalajara mountains to collect the (female) Mascaritas from the village of (Almiruete popluation usually 35) and then parade with a unique walking / dance around the tiny mountain village to celebrate carinval and the start of spring and the end of of winter. While carnival celebrations were banned under the Franco dictatoriship many have been revived since and in obscure hard to reach places places such as Almiruete they may have existed for over 1, 000 yesrs.
