Mass graves from the spanish Civil War 2003

An Archaeologist retrieves a belt buckle excavated amongst the human remains found in a mass grave near the town of Aranda de Duero, (100 miles north of Madrid) when in the summer of 1936, at the very beginning of the Spanish Civil war, socialists, communists and republicans were rounded up and shot in shallow graves. It is believed that a further 35, 000 disappeared persons are still in unmarked graves. The NGO Service Civil International (SCI) is calling for volunteers from Europe to help dig up and give a dignified burial to those executed over 60 years ago
