Candles are burnt outside the church in honour of their patron saint Santa Marta, in Galicia northern Spain. Wax figurines or wax mouldings of parts of the body are left in the hope that Santa Marta will cure the ailment from which the parishoner suffers. (e.g. in this case their legs)
