Feb. 12, 1959 - The Prime Minister lays a Wreath on the Statue of Abraham Lincoln in Parliament Square: This morning, Mr. Macmillan, the Prime Minister, laid a wreath on the statue of Abraham Lincoln, to mark the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The bronze statue stands in Parliament Square and in a replica of one in Chicago it was offered to the British nation during the first World War by the British-American Peace Centennial Committee and was errected in 1921.
