18th century gun modernised by American soldiers
Oct. 10, 1958 - A gun of the 18th century fit for the museum: was delivered on October 30th 1958 to the security manager Ernst Hick from Hof at the Saal River by the US-soldiers of the signal-school, which was stationed till now in the Gneisenau-camp in Ansbach. The old gun was under the protection of Ernst Hick, who had been the commander of this camp during the second world war. The security manager of today Mr. Hick had a correspondence for several years into which even the US-embassy in Bonn, David Bruce, the headquarter of the US-Army in Heidelberg and finally the secretary of state of the American army in Washington were engaged, to get back the gun fit for a museum. The American soldiers did not know anything about the historical worth, they modernised the gun and announced the beginning and the end of their service very noisy by a cartouche-load
