May 08, 1957 - Filming the Evacuation of Dunkirk at Camber: Four thousand troops are taking part in the re-enact ion of the famous Dunkirk evacuation, for the Ealing Films picture Dunkirk'. Since the northern coast of France is so built up as to be almost unrecognizable from the hell on earth that existed there in 1940, the beaches and sand dunes of Camber, near Rye, in Sussex, have been chosen for the scenes. Photo shows general view showing troops lying flat down during and air attack, during the filming at Camber today
