Mar. 22 Opening of Mr. Pastry's first pool for spastics at Tonbridge'; Mr. Pastry, actor Richard Hearne, and Miss Julie Andrews, today opened the first swimming pool for spastics in Britain. This was at the Thomas Delarue School at Tonbridge, Kent, Mr. Hearne was responsible for launching as appeal so that the spastics schools could each have their own pool. The appeal aroused national enthusiasm and donations poured in. There is now enough money for four more pools which will be built at Creydon, Birmingham, Bayhill, and Cardiff.
