Dec. 12, 1967 - Michael York in Bombay to star in The Guru'.: Young British star Michael York arrived recently in Bombay to star in The Guru, the very topical film to be produced by Merchant Ivory Productions for Twentieth Century - Fox. Michael plays the role of a famouos British pop singer Tom Pickle, who comes to India to study with a noted musician, a Guru. And since so many of today's young swingers and hippies are turning towards India for tranquility and solutions to their problems, he meets a British hippie, who will be played by Rita Tushingham. Michael, who has just finished starring in the The Strange Affair for Paramount, has already been busy learning to play the sitar in London. He will have further instruction from the master musician Vilayet Khan in Mombay. The Guru, which began filming on December 26, will be shot on location in Bombay, Bikaner and Banaras under the direction of American James Ivory. Utpal Dutt, noted Indian actor, will play the Guru himself, with Aparna Sen and Madhur Jaffrey as his two wives.
