Oct. 13, 1960 - Royal Scottish Gathering In South Africa - Will The Title Royal Be Retained In Future: The 28th Royal Scottish Gathering opened at the Wanderers Oval in Johannesburg recently. Pipe bands from all over the country marched into the ground with kilts asway and pipes playing. They came from Natal, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Kimberley, Rhodesia, Port Elizabeth and the Reef for one of the biggest gatherings in years. Many people attending the gathering were wondering if future gatherings would retain the title of Royal now that South Africa is soon to become a republic.
