Abe Segal, tennis player, speaks to reporters, Wimbledon
Jun. 06, 1964 - Abe Segal walks over - on Political grounds.: South African tennis star Abe Segal arrived at Wimbledon this afternoon to play Russian No. 2 Alex Metreveli, but found that his opponent had withdrawn as a protest against South Africa's Apartheid racial discrimination policy. The Russian embassy stated that the decision to withdraw was Metreveli's own and no pressure had been brought to bear on him, but it was against their official policy to compete with South Africas.
