Sep. 09, 1950 - Rescue Work In Progress During The Enockshinnock Pit Disaster: After many hours hard work - toil etc.. all but thirteen of the men trapped in the disaster at the Knockshinnock Mine, Ayrshire - had been brought to the surface. Many believe that the missing thirteen were caught in the fall and perished when the subsidence took place in the mine at 10 pm on Thursday. Every man of the 115 rescued underwent a terrible ordeal in making his way through gas special breathing apparatus had to be used.
