Accidents - Disasters - Fires - Floods - Tragedies

1968 - Mr.Stanley Davis has a nice hot cup of tea waiting for his wife and little daughter, Susan, when they arrived back at their Canvey home which they have before the fire while drying off their sodden boats and shoes. A flood family returns to Canvey: Among those who are now returning to their flood sodden homes at Canvey Island, were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Davis and their children, Brian 17, and Susan 7 who were trapped in their bungalow on the night of the flood. Mrs. Davis was nearly drowned that night when the water came up to her shoulders and Mr. Davis held little Susan above his head while they all struggled across the flooded road to the two-storeyed villa opposite where they remained until they were rescued by a DUK the next day. Since then the family has been staying at the home of Mrs. Davids parents at Shepherds Bush although Mr.David returned to Canvey earlier this week to light fires in the -rooms in readiness for his familys return today.
