1953 - Nine dead in Tube disaster: Nine people were known today to have died in the Central Line tube disaster at Stratford last night the worst in London's Underground history. It was the second coach of the Baling Broadway Epping train which took the brunt of the crash. The train ran into the rear of another train travelling from Greenford to Hainsult. Photo shows last night's scene as railway officials help passengers from the rear of one of the coaches after the crash at Stratford. At the right is an ambulance man with his firs aid box propped on the wall of the tunnel waiting to give first aid to the injured
