Jan. 01, 1953 - Bomber Tears Crater in the Road. Canberra Jet Crashes in Ball of Fire Ten minutes after taking off from Abington, Berks. on a training flight the crew of three of a Canberra Jet were killed on a ball-of-fire crash. The plane burst into flames nose-dived into the Old Bath Road at Twyford and tore a crater about 30ft. by 20ft. deep.
