Jan. 01, 1954 - Snow and ice in 31 counties. Many escape as bus overturns near Southampton.: Roads in thirty-one counties of England and Wales were affected by snow or ice today in the cold spell which spread throughout the country. Road traffic was disrupted and trains delayed - and there were several accidents on treacherous roads. Forty five men on their way to an aircraft factory at Hursley, Hampshire, had lucky escapes when the works bus got out of control on a snowbound hill on the main Southampton - Winchester road. The bus toppled on to its side. The men were thrown about inside - but only three had to be taken to hospital with slight injuries.
